About Civil Engineering

Consider a building, an Architect has designed it and it looks fantastic, a Structural Engineer has designed the structure to function and remain standing for the lifespan of the building.  However this is just a building without Civil engineering, it can not fulfil its purpose, without roads, railways, bridges etc no one can get to the building, without services supply and generation and water disposal no one can occupy and use the building, all the things we everyday take for granted, this is Civil Engineering.

Our dedicated team of Engineers will sit down with Clients and Architects and listen to their aspirations and produce a complete and fully coordinated package of drawings, schedules and specifications from concept design and planning, through the technical approval stages of highways and drainage systems to tender, construction and project completion with the production of as built information.

We offer an integrated design package where the civil and structural engineering are fully coordinated within one office.   We pride ourselves in the quality of our staff and the level of information provided.

Pre-Planning Application Works

• Layout Feasibility
Undertake a cursory assessment of the proposed site layout and provide any comments to the Client with regards areas that may not comply with current standards.

Flood Risk Assessment
Produce the Flood Risk Assessment for the proposed site in accordance with the current regulations. Upon Submission liaise with the Environment Agency to obtain approval prior to planning submission.

Environmental Statements
Produce the Environmental Statement and accompanying Technical Reports for the proposed site as required for a planning submission

Drainage Strategy
Produce a drainage strategy for the proposed site following liaison with the Environment Agency and the local Water Authority. The drainage strategy will include a sustainable system to suit the site and client's requirements with regards amenity value.

Highways Assessment
Assess the proposed on-site layouts and existing off-site network for suitability. Liaise with the Local Highways Authority to assess their requirements and obtain approval in principle.

Floor Levels
Assess the requirements set by the Flood Risk Assessment, part M access and highway layout to fix plot floor levels prior to a planning submission.

Highway Design

Preliminary Site Investigation Works
Initial site visit to assess possible requirements for access, lighting, signage etc.

Preliminary Highway Design
Confirming the line, level and width requirements of the proposed highway network for the agreed working layout plan. Liaising with the Highway Authority with regards highway classification and design requirements.

Full Highway Design & Layout Plan
Producing the detailed and coloured layout plan for Section 38 approval. All details will be produced in accordance with the current and relevant design guides and Highways Authority requirements.

Highway Longitudinal & Cross Sections
Produce detailed longitudinal and cross sections including all proposed centre and channel levels, existing levels, chainages and vertical and horizontal alignment.

Highway Details
Producing all necessary detail drawings including standard highway construction details, kerb details, etc

Section 38 Technical Approval Submission
Submit copies of all relevant adoptable highway drawings and

Section 38 Technical Approval Comments
Reply to any technical approval comments from the adopting authority and amend details as necessary for re-submission.

Full Section 38 Submission
Submit the required number of drawings and calculations along with the application documentation for the formal Section 38 agreement.

Highway Setting Out Information
Produce a highway setting out schedule for the agreed highway layout plan, with clearly marked coordinates as required by the Client.

Off-site Highway Works
Liaison with Local Authority regarding any requirement for off-site works under Section 106 and 278 agreements. Produce detailed design and drawings for submission to the Local Authority for approval. All drawings and details upon approval will be issued for construction.

External Works

Preliminary External Works Levels
Assess the agreed working layout and preliminary highway design to produce and agree the overall preliminary site profile and strategy with the Architect and Client.

Part M & FFL Details
Pitch property and garage floor levels in accordance with Part M of the Building Regulations.

External Work Layout
Produce final external works layout plans including floor, garden, driveways and privte parking area levels in accordance with the client's requirements. The External works layout will also indicate areas where tanking will be required and, where necessary, heights of retaining structures.

Plot Setting Out Information
Produce a plot setting out drawing from the agreed working layout plan, with clearly marked coordinates as required by the Client.

Drainage Design

Preliminary Site Investigation Works
Initial site visit to ascertain possible connection points including confirmation of manhole invert levels.

Preliminary Private Drainage Design
Confirming the line, level and size of the private drainage network for the agreed working layout plan. Liaising with the Water Authority with regards connections and anticipated flows as required.

Full Private Drainage Design & Layout Plan
Producing the detailed layout plan, manhole schedules, setting out information and suitable details and calculations for Building Regulations approval.

Preliminary Section 104 Drainage Design
Confirming the line, level and size of the S104 Adoptable drainage network for the agreed working layout plan. Liaising with the Water Company with regards connections and anticipated flows as required.

Attenuation/Soakaway Design & Detail

Attenuation systems
Full design and detailing including attenuation sizing, type, location and flow control chamber and device. Attenuation designed in accordance with the relevant standards and Environment Agency requirements.

Soakaway systems
Full design and detailing including sizing, type and location. A complete set of soakaway calculations will be provided for Building Regulations or Highways approval.

Full Section 104 Drainage Design & Layout Plan
Producing the detailed layout plan, manhole schedules, longitudinal sections, setting out information and suitable details for Section 104 approval. All details will be produced in accordance with the current Sewers for Adoption and Water Company requirements including coloured layout plans.

Full Section 104 Calculations
A complete set of adoptable drainage calculations produced using a hydraulic model of the system will be provided for Section 104 approval.

Combined Drainage Layout Drawing
Adoptable and private drainage details will be combined to produce a generic coloured plan clearly defining private and adoptable foul and surface water drainage.

Drainage Details
Producing all necessary detail drawings including standard manhole details, catch pit details, etc

Section 104 Technical Approval Submission
Submit copies of all relevant adoptable drainage drawings and calculations for Section 104 Technical Approval.

Section 104 Technical Approval Comments
Reply to any technical approval comments from the Water Company and amend details as necessary for re-submission.

Full Section 104 Submission
Submit the required number of drawings and calculations along with the application documentation for the formal Section 104 agreement.

Sewer Requisitions
Prepare details and submit the required information for sewer requisitions.

Combined Services Plans

Assess Service Requirements
Discuss and evaluate service requirements with respect to heating i.e gas or electric, loadings etc.

Obtain Service Enquiries & Prices
Liaise with service providers and obtain quotations for the supply to the proposed development.

Advise Client of Options
Review service quotations and evaluate and advise the Client of the proposed options.

Obtain Client Approval
Identify and recommend the successful suppliers and locate or obtain the proposed layouts.

Produce Combined Services Plan
Service layouts provided by the suppliers will be added to the agreed working layout and combined drainage layout. Service locations will be amended where necessary to avoid drainage or other services.

  Issue to Service Providers for Approval
Completed combined services plan will be issued to each service provider for comment with regards any amendment of their original layout and therefore quotation.

Amend & Issue Approved Plan
Combined services plan will be amended as required by the service providers and reissued for final approval.

Conveyancing Plans

Receive Client's Marked up Plan
Review Client's marked up plan and confirm any areas of confusion.

Produce Overall Site Conveyance Plan
Produce an overall site conveyance plan in accordance with the Client's requirements.

Obtain Client Approval
Submit overall plan to the Client for approval or comment. Amend as necessary and obtain full agreement.

Produce Individual Plot Plans
From the overall site conveyance plan produce individual A4 plot conveyance plans.

Obtain Client Approval
Submit individual plot plans to the Client for approval or comment. Amend as necessary and obtain full agreement.

Issue Required Number of Drawings

Other Services

Site Investigation
Undertake trial pit evaluation and produce detailed report including recommendations with regards foundation type and size.

Percolation Testing
Undertake percolation tests in accordance with the current standards and assess the infiltration rate for soakaway design.

Ground Stabilisation
Advise and undertake ground stabilisation designs for embankments and sub structure areas.

Cut & Fill Assessments
Undertake cut and fill assessment using ground modelling software and produce a cost effective design with regards the balance of cut and fill.

Airport Works
Undertake runway, taxiway and apron designs in accordance with The Civil Aviation Authority requirements.

Pumping Station Design
Complete design and detailing of foul and surface water pumping stations for both private and adoptable drainage systems.

Treatment Plants
Detailed design and specification for private sewage treatment plants for residential and commercial development

Marine Engineering
Detailed design of marine engineering projects including slipways and dock walls.

Sea Defences
Design of sea walls to protect residential and commercial development areas in accordance with the Environment Agency requirements.

Design and Build
Providing pre-tender design and detailing civil and structural engineering for proposed developments as part of the contractors team.
