Alun J Sands BSc(hons), CEng, MICE

Achieved an honours degree in Building Engineering at Bath University and became a full member of the Institution of Civil Engineers in 1985. With over 30 years in the construction industry, both on site and in Consulting Engineers offices, he has gained comprehensive experience in all forms of Civil and Structural Engineering with both private and public bodies. After running the head office of a Bristol Consultants as Associate Partner, he then took on the challenge of opening a branch office in Exeter. For the past 20 years, he has been closely associated with Exeter, and the surrounding area. He is responsible for marketing the practice and continuing client liaison.


Civil Engineering
Storm water storage tank designs for various Devon sites working with South West Water and their Agents. Drainage schemes for new developments and upgrading existing sewers. Soil Investigations and reporting on varied site conditions. Design of dock walls, sea defences and slipways. Airport runway and apron design.

Structural Engineering
Warehousing, industrial units, hospitals, flats, residential estates, and hotels.

Planning Supervisor
Undertaken role as Planning Supervisor of many projects

 

Peter J Jackson BSc, CEng, MIStructE

Began his career in 1970 with the Property Services Agency working in a design office on Naval Base Development projects at Devonport and Plymouth, UK. In 1975 he joined the Structural Engineers section of Kent County Council and during the next 10 years worked on many County projects such as schools, Sports Halls, Libraries and Police and Fire Stations. In 1977 he became an Associate Member of the Institution of Structural Engineers.

He gained a degree in Civil Engineering from Kingston Polytechnic in 1983 and a year later became a Chartered Structural Engineer. On moving to McCarthy and Stone Developments he quickly progressed from Engineer, Regional Engineer, to become the Technical Manager for the South West region based in Exeter. As Technical Manager he had complete responsibility for the design and construction functions within the region and controlled a team of some 80 personnel ranging from Architects to Contracts Managers. Jointly with the Regional Manager controlled an annual budget in excess of £11 million. The developments ranged from small 8 unit two storey block to 100 units on 7 storeys with ancillary accommodation. As director of A J Sands Ltd he has overall responsibility for all Civil and Structural Engineering within the Practice.

Structural Engineering
Housing, high rise flats, schools, sports halls, libraries, car parks, fire stations, offices, and commercial complexes. Refurbishment and remedial works. Complex of airport structures including baggage handling and arrivals lounge.
