Martyn achieved an honours degree in Civil Engineering at Southampton University in 1992 and on graduating joined TH Associates, a small Exeter consultancy, working on many local projects.  He joined Sands in 1993 and has been heavily involved in maintaining a high quality of work and growing the practice to it's current size.  Martyn became a full member of the Institution of Structural Engineers in 2004.  After leading the structural engineering department for several years, he progressed to associate director in 2005. 

Martyn is now responsible for the management of the specialist structural services department which deals with timber frame design and detailing, and steel detailing and connection design, but maintains and enjoys his involvement in traditional structural design.

Martyn’s sixteen years in the industry have seen him working on a wide variety of projects involving the full range of building materials and methods.  His technical ability is highly regarded and his organisational skills have been utilised in his management roles.
